Family friendly, pick-your-distance fun-run

The Milk Run

The Milk Run

Back in 2013, a couple of KINDNESS participants came up with this annual fundraising idea. They wanted to find a way to raise awareness of KINDNESS in the community, bring families together in a healthy activity and support the KINDNESS mission. It has turned into a popular annual family event that gets bigger and better and more fun every year! The KINDNESS Milk Run/Walk has “pick-your-own-distance” options, offering with a “littles” foot race for toddlers and preschoolers and every distance up to a 10K! It is dog- and stroller-friendly, and of course there are milk and cookies to help the racers recover when it’s all over. This event brings together community members of all ages — whether on foot, in strollers, or wagging along on four legs — to promote healthy families and strong community connections.

2025 Milk Run

It’s hard to believe that this event can get more fun every year, but that’s what’s happening! Kodiak, you are amazing. You come out regardless of the weather, to be together and celebrate families. You are teaching the next generation what it community means. This year we had ballons, bubbles, dogs, strollers, young and old cheering each other on to run whatever distance our legs wanted to go, from a pre-school foot race all the way to a 10K through the mossy trees at Fort Abercrombie and back! Check out the full photo album and download any pics you want to keep (some past years are below too!). Can’t wait to see what next year brings!

2023

2023 may have been our best Milk Run ever! With excellent weather and CU1 matching all proceeds, we had 109 participants (including 11 steadfast volunteers) and raised almost $7,500. The popular "littles" race has become a tradition for several families, and now some of those "littles" are joining the big people on the bike path and pulling in impressive race times! We love having KMS and KHS runners participate every year too; and this year we had a professional race-timing watch. Almost everyone walked away with something - over 50 door prizes from local businesses, or milk and cookies of course! Celebrations of the glorious fall Kodiak day continued at the Kodiak Community Foundation's nonprofit downtown block party all afternoon.

2022

The Milk Run went off without a hitch in 2022. After a quick and exciting foot race for the “littles” on Woody Way Field, longer-legged folk headed out at various speeds for various distances around the block on the bike trail, with everyone ending up back at the field for milk and cookies and fabulous door prizes. Collectors loved T-shirts designed by local artist Tasnah Bercy, and many participants continued to celebrate by heading to the Kodiak Community Foundation's nonprofit block party downtown.
