Feeding by Milestones
On this page, you’ll find links to posts that compile the essential infant feeding info we think is important for you to know at each milestone or benchmark your baby passes, all in one place. We organized these posts by your baby’s age, but only because it’s the easiest way for you to find what pertains most specifically to your baby. Current infant feeding recommendations, especially when it comes to tasting flavors, introducing solid foods and starting to drink from a cup, are developmentally-based, not age-based. So keep in mind that your baby may be at a different stage than is described in the post that matches his or her age. What your baby can do should drive your parenting with food, not how old she is. As always, contact us anytime if you have questions or concerns, or can’t find what you’re looking for. You can find more information categorized by specific infant feeding topics on our Tips and Tools for Infant Feeding Library page.
Two weeks
Your baby’s weight should be at or a bit above birthweight by now. It’s also recommended to start giving your baby vitamin D within the first few weeks of life.
Six Weeks
Many families start thinking about offering their babies a bottle between 4-8 weeks; this is the best window of time for your baby to learn to take bottles without interfering with breastfeeding.
3 Months
Get your camera ready to capture the cutest reactions! Babies who start early with tasting flavors on their tongues (which is different from eating) tend to progress better with solid foods when they are older.
Six Months
Wondering if your baby is ready to EAT (take solids from a spoon, move it back in their mouth and purposefully swallow?) Let’s find out!
Nine Months
What textures of food can your baby handle now? Here’s how to encourage independent eating at the family table and drink from a cup too!
Twelve Months
What a milestone to reach one year! This is a time of transitions – walking, talking, weaning, molars and toddler milk – we’re not babies anymore!
